A journey that started with a vision and evolved into something we're honestly pretty proud of
So here's the thing - we didn't set out to create just another fancy hotel. Back in 2016, our founders were sitting in a cramped coffee shop on Bay Street, sketching ideas on napkins. They'd both traveled enough to know what was missing in Toronto's hotel scene.
What they wanted was a place where you could actually unwind after a crazy day, somewhere that felt personal instead of corporate. The building we eventually found - this gorgeous 1920s structure - had been sitting empty for years. Most people saw a renovation nightmare. We saw potential.
Honestly? The first year was rough. We gutted everything while preserving the original architecture - those art deco features you see throughout the hotel. Our lead architect kept saying we were crazy for keeping so much of the old stuff, but it turned out to be what makes us special.
We brought in craftspeople who actually cared about their work. The marble in our lobby? Hand-selected from a quarry outside Montreal. Those brass fixtures? Custom-made by a metalworker who's been doing this for 40 years. It took forever, but you can't rush quality.
The wellness angle wasn't part of the original plan, actually. One of our co-founders had a health scare during construction - nothing serious, but it made everyone step back and think. What's the point of luxury if you're burnt out enjoying it?
That's when we completely redesigned the lower two floors to become our spa and wellness center. We hired therapists who trained in Bali and Switzerland, nutritionists who don't just talk about kale all day, and created spaces where people can genuinely decompress. It's become the heart of what we do.
Look, we're not gonna pretend we're perfect. Some days the elevator's a bit slow, and our chef can be temperamental about his tasting menu. But what we've built here is real. Our team's been with us for years - not because we pay the highest wages in town, but because they actually give a damn.
Every morning, our general manager walks through every floor. Not inspecting - just checking in. We know our regulars by name, remember their coffee orders, and genuinely want them to feel at home. That's not something you can fake or put in a brochure.
We've got plans - always do. Maybe expand the rooftop garden, definitely upgrading our fitness equipment next year. But we're not in a rush to become some massive chain. The moment we lose that personal touch is the moment we've lost what makes this place special.
So yeah, that's us. A boutique hotel in Toronto that's trying to do things a bit differently. Come visit sometime and see if we're full of it or if we've actually got something worth experiencing.
Our team's not your typical hotel staff. We've got former yoga instructors working the front desk, a sommelier who used to be a rock climber, and a maintenance guy who speaks five languages. Everyone here brings something unique to the table.
What ties them together? They all genuinely care about hospitality. It's not just a job - they want guests to have an amazing stay. You'll see it in how they remember little details, anticipate needs before you ask, and go out of their way to make things right.
We invest heavily in training and development because talented people deserve to grow. Many of our managers started as entry-level staff. That's the kind of place we're building - one where effort and passion actually get rewarded.
